Old dogs and new tricks

Hello Underwych,

This is the first time I have ever blogged! But I thought it was time that an old dog learnt a few new tricks although I feel a bit like a street in Northwich has subsided under my feet and dropped me into a whole new world...

It is full of new words... 'blog' for a start... or old ones like 'dashboard' that used to belong to cars or furniture... can I drive this thing?

Yet here I am, sitting typing into cyberspace just a short dog walk from where salt was carried down the River Weaver through Northwich by steam packets (boats). Salt was mined around here (and upstream in Winsford) to such an extent that fields near our town collapsed into the excavated areas. More new words... 'flashes'... the lakes that filled the subsided areas... and silent words in sepia photographs as the folk of Northwich gathered to see a lop-sided house or a quaked street. Days when photography was as miraculous as me typing into cyberspace.

Time for me to test the dashboard and click the blue 'preview' and then - maybe - hit the orange 'button' which says PUBLISH...

Wish me luck!

Caroline

Grand Opening

Hello everyone,
Underwych's blog is officially open! I can't wait to read your contributions and comments so keep them coming!
As explained above, Underwych is a community arts project based in Northwich. Since September 2006, local writers have been researching the impact of subsidence on Vale Royal's heritage.
The material unearthed will be fed into a play to be performed in July 2007. It will also form the basis of workshops in local schools and with community arts groups in February-March next year.
If you're interested in taking part, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best wishes
Mathilde
