Ruth Kelly, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, has denied Neptune Developments £73million plans for the redevelopment of New Brighton. For many years New Brighton was a must-see destination for tourists but is currently suffering from the tail end of a 30 year decline. With this in mind Paul Unger explores why the developer’s proposals were overturned and what this decision will mean for the town.
